Show Gratitude for Nature
Read the wonderful book, ‘Aroha Knows’ by Rebekah Lipp and Craig Phillips, or watch the fantastic read aloud book by Sarah Akroyd, ‘What are you Grateful for Little Bug?’. These two New Zealand books are both excellent to get you thinking about being grateful for the nature around you.
Then go on a nature walk and notice what makes you feel happy. Enjoy the sun shining on your skin and the cool breeze on your face. Be mindful of what’s around you and how it makes you feel. Think about your senses and focus on one at a time. What can you see? Close your eyes and think about the sounds that you can hear. What can you smell? Focus on touch, and feel the different textures around you.
Notice flowers blooming and birds singing.
Write a day of gratitude in your nature journal, “I am grateful for … “ Click HERE to see how to make a nature journal.
An example of a gratitude journal entry:
“I am grateful for the kowhai flowers blooming bright yellow and attracting the birds and bugs. I am grateful for the tui singing their beautiful song. I am grateful for the worms working hard to give my plants rich soil. I love the feel of the soft grass under my bare feet and the breeze on my face. Nature makes me feel great and I am grateful that I have this special place near my home!”
As an alternative to writing, take photos of the things that you are grateful for, or draw them. Can you capture their beauty?
