Connections with Place
Create or print a map of Aotearoa/New Zealand and highlight places that you connect to. Maybe these special places are where your tīpuna (ancestors) or whānau are from, or somewhere that you have had a wonderful holiday, maybe you have just heard stories about them and wish to visit one day.
Read the book ‘Aroha Knows’ by Rebekah Lipp and Craig Phillips (Wildling Books) and discover the places that are special to Aroha. These are places that she feels free, connects with nature, enjoys being alone, or enjoys spending time with friends. Think about why each place is special to her and then think about places that you connect with and why they are special to you.
To show these connections on the map you could draw pictures, glue photos or pictures from magazines, or write words. Be creative and make your map beautiful!
Challenge: Take this activity a step further! Make a poster, website, piece of art, or video to tell your friends about a place in Aotearoa that is special to you.
