Hold a Nude Food Picnic
‘Nude food’ is food without single use packaging. It is often in reusable containers or beeswax wrap.
Challenge the kids at your school to have a ‘Nude Food Picnic.’ You’ll need to advertise it to each class and explain what nude food is. You might need to let parents know by email, school newsletter, or through the school’s social media channel. Explain why single use packaging is so bad for our environment, and encourage kids to make the change permanently to nude food.
A group of children at Wairakei Primary school held a Nude Food Picnic and it was a huge success. They set out blankets and invited the children with nude food to come along. Children lined up and showed them their nude food lunchbox before finding a spot on the picnic blanket. As lunchboxes were checked, each child was given a little note to say thank you to the person who prepared their nude food lunch. On the back of this note was a number for a lucky draw. The organisers pulled numbers out of a hat to award spot prizes. This added to the fun. They noticed that after this, many more students brought nude food to school regularly and made an effort to cut down on packaging.
Try this at your school and let us know how it goes!
