Pill bugs play an important role in the decomposition (break down) of rotten wood and plant matter.
They love to hang out in dark places. Instead of seeing like humans do, pill bug eyes are only photosensitive, using light and dark to guide their way through the world.
You can test this out in your garden on a sunny day. Watch the video below to see how the pill bug reacts to light vs dark. In the darkness they slow down as they are happy, whereas in the light it speeds up trying to find darkness.
