Explore Rangatira Point
The scavenger hunts below are designed to use at Rangatira Point in Taupō. You will find lots of māhoe trees and carpets of kōwaowao (hound’s tongue fern). If you are lucky, you might find kōtukutuku flowers or berries. Finding the best māhoe skeleton leaf is a great competition! If you walk all the way to the end of the track, you can explore the big flat rocks and be amazed at the seedlings growing out of cracks in the rocks. Just before you get there, go into the cave with a torch and see hundreds of little cave wētā! In the mossy bank on the way down you might spot glow worms with little threads fishing for bugs. At the boat ramp you can spot trees that are not usually found in Taupō, including pohutukawa and kauri. Have fun!
