Build a Sandcastle
If you are lucky enough to live near a beach, get out in nature and make a sandcastle!
If you don’t have a beach nearby, you might have a sandpit to do this activity in. Experiment with sand and water. Let really wet sand drip through your fingers to make little towers. Use cups and buckets to mould damp sand into castles. Sprinkle dry sand on it to decorate it, or to colour certain areas. Decorate your sandcastles with sticks, shells, feathers and other natural objects. You could add roads, rivers, moats, bridges and tunnels. Playing in sand is a fantastic sensory activity. It is a way of learning about solids and liquids, and so much more.
We’d love to see photos of your creative castles!
This video has some great hints to help you make a really strong sandcastle:
If you have shells, listen to the ocean sound that you can hear inside it. If older children would like to know what makes that sound, here’s a fantastic video that explains it.
