Float Sticks Down a River
Floating sticks in a stream and watching them meander their way down, over rocks and even over a waterfall, can be a relaxing activity. But, this activity can be so much more! If you’re wanting a calm, mindfulness activity just watching the stick’s journey might be enough. However, for some fun you could play ‘Pooh Sticks’ (see the video for the Pooh Bear story that goes with this game!) See whose stick will win the race.
Older children, or students, can learn lots from doing a ‘Slowest Stick’ race. This is a fantastic idea from the Science Learning Hub. Click HERE to download and print the resource. The aim of this activity is to look at the stream as a habitat and think of it from an animal’s perspective. Would this stream be a good place for animals to live? Could the habitat be improved?
Wow! We love that there are 3 completely different ways to use this nature connector ranging from calm and peaceful, to fun and exciting, to a thoughtful learning experience. How cool is that! Who knew you could get so much from a stick and a stream? Have fun, stay safe, and let us know how you used this nature connector.
