Human Knot Activity

Starting in a circle, participants connect right hands with another person across the circle, then connect left hands with a different person. The person they are connected to cannot be the same, nor right beside them in the circle. As a team they must then try to unravel the “human knot” by untangling themselves without breaking the chain of hands.

This game tests you communication skills in a group. Make sure to reflect on the activity afterwards and find ways to improve.

Migration Game

Resources required:

  • Carpet squares- three per group of 4/5 participants

  • Something to mark a start and finish line: rope, flax/cabbage tree leaves, shoes, etc.

  • A high-vis vest

Mark out a start and finish line. In groups of 4-5 stand in a line behind the start line. Touching only the carpet squares (or something similar) move from the start line to the finish line.

This game requires working together creatively and strategically in order to solve a practical, physical problem. It tends to emphasize group communication, cooperation, leadership and membership, patience and problem-solving.  It's like the Crocodile river game but instead of crossing a river filled with crocodiles you are a bird migrating from place to another using the carpet squares as native tree areas.

If the game is too easy:

  • Expand the start and finish area

  • Introduce a building developer to the game- they get to wear a hi-vis vest and steal any carpet squares that don’t have any people on them

  • Take one carpet square away from each group

Hoop Challenge

Get the group to stand in a circle holding hands and have a hula hoop hanging over one person’s arm. When the leader says, “Go!”, the team work together to move the hoop around the circle, over each person, until it gets back to the start. No one is allowed to let go of their neighbours’ hands. After one round get the team to talk together and come up with a strategy to do it faster!

  • This can be a cooperation challenge where the whole team is timed, and then tries to beat their time.

  • You can have more than one team, all competing against each other to be the fastest.

  • You can add more hoops and see if the team can get all of them back to the person who started with them.

Kim Manunui

Hi, I’m Kim and I work with a great team to help individuals, as well as small and not so small businesses get their message, product and services to the world using digital media and creating wonderful websites that don’t cost the earth.

I was born in Canada, and grew up around Vancouver and the mountains of British Columbia. My love of pristine environments led me to New Zealand and eventually to the mountains, lakes and rivers of the central North Island which is home. My family’s heritage is here, and it’s from here that Korio traverses the planet.

The digital world is never static and neither are we.

And I say ‘we’ because I work with an awesome group of talented people who I gather together as required to complete a project.  Whatever your business, not-for-profit or individual needs are we gather the best team to get the job done.

Collaboratively we are creative, share sustainable values and work hard for great outcomes because that’s the buzz of satisfaction that drives us.

If you have an audience and market to reach, we can make that happen. Creative design, words that work and smart behind the scenes stuff that cuts through the online noise. We’ll design your website and then build it. We’ll manage the content as well as all your hosting needs. We can handle your online advertising so you get noticed,
and we’ll manage your social media presence so you get the clicks, likes and engagement to grow your business. All within the budget you set, because none of this needs to cost the earth.  And the job doesn’t stop when your website goes live. We are your virtual business partner.
