Find Different Textures in Nature
Getting outside and connecting to your environment is so important for both physical and mental health. Everyone loves a good scavenger hunt to make their time in nature a bit more fun, especially those of us who are a bit competitive!
This Nature Connector will get you looking at the world around you through new eyes and using your sense of touch. The goal is to find different textures in nature.
This is a great language and sensory activity for children, which will get them discussing the things around them and using lots of new vocabulary.
You could brainstorm a list of different textures and then go for a hunt in your backyard or local green space to find things that match each texture.
Or, do the opposite and go and collect as many things as you can that are different textures, then make a list of the textures that you found. You could even put those items into a paper bag and then have a go at feeling around inside and identifying the different objects using just touch.
If you want a ready made texture scavenger hunt check out our Kids Greening Taupō BINGO. You can see who can find a line first (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal), or challenge yourself to find all of the textures! You can click on the picture to download and print the pdf.
We also found this alternative one from Woodland Trust Nature Detectives that you might like. We love the idea of using an egg carton to collect textured treasures! You can click on the pictures to download and print the egg carton texture hunt.
