Connect using Virtual Reality
BLAKE NZ is a school outreach programme which aims to connect thousands of young New Zealanders with freshwater and marine environments. Through virtual reality (VR) technology, NZ-VR allows students to experience the rich biodiversity that exists below the surface of the river and the ocean, and the damage that has been done to the ecosystem.
As part of this experience, students learn how human interaction affects waterways and they get to see for themselves the differences between a healthy habitat and an unhealthy one. This programme allows students to experience something they may not ever get to experience themselves in real life and provides a deep learning opportunity to discuss the ways that we humans can help reduce our impact on our wai.
