Earth Day Litter Pick Up
We had a fantastic Earth Day celebration supporting Shannon from Taupō District Council with her litter pick up. Our student leaders and their families turned up with lots of other amazing volunteers from our community to clean up the lakefront and surrounding streets.
The tamariki collected buckets of sand and sifted through them to find the macroplastics hidden in the sand. These were glued to a wooden trout to become an art piece that can be used for educational purposes.
Volunteer divers in the lake sadly found syringes with needles amongst the litter covering the lake bed, and volunteers on the street collected sacks of litter including a toilet seat!
Thank you to Shannon for organising the event (and cooking awesome Earth Day pancakes) and to everyone who , came along to support it, including Tidy Taupo, Huka Honey Hive, Waikato Enviroschools, Taupō EEC and Miraka Limited
We also created this Earth Day Challenge for anyone who wanted ideas of what they could do with their class or family for Earth Day.
