A Day In The Life: Education Coordinator Student Work Placement
For the past 10 weeks, I have been given the most awesome opportunity to go on a work placement and be mini-me following Sian and Rachel around at Kids Greening Taupō. I got to do everything from working with 2-3 years olds right through to 17-18 years, to planting trees and doing pest control workshops. I also got to practice my public Speaking and develop my photography skills. Not only did I teach young kids about the environment, but they were also teaching me. Which has a very special connection to me as that was my first ever experience in Kids Greening Taupō 5 years ago.
My highlights from the work placement at Kids Greening Taupō:
I got to work with Waipahihi School doing bug hunts in Waipahihi Gully.
Doing seed propagation with My Treehut
I helped run a BLAKE Virtual Reality Talk at St Patrick’s School. It was awesome having a chance to meet Annika and Alice.
I have also enjoyed getting to know so many wonderful people and making some wonderful Connections from DOC to BLAKE NZ.
I have also really enjoyed learning the behind the scenes of Kids Greening and what it actually takes to be an Education Coordinator. It’s not just having fun with kids all day- there is a lot of admin work and planning behind the scenes which makes every event successful.
I am so grateful for the new knowledge that I have gained, and I will continue to share this with others.
I would like to thank Rachel for allowing me to join Sian over the past weeks but also letting me join her on one of her crazy busy days. But I would also like to thank Sian, for allowing me to be her mini-me for 10 weeks and connecting me to many great people. Thank you Kids Greening Taupō for giving me the opportunity to do something I love.
