Celebrating six years as a student leader!
When I started Kids Greening Taupō (KGT) I was a shy year nine student at Tauhara College. I didn't think I would enjoy all the planting because that didn't seem like ‘me’. After a year or so into it I realized how much fun it was, the programme is so much more than just planting.
All the opportunities I have had as a part of this team have been incredible.
My highlights as part of the KGT programme have been:
Meeting Bill English, the former Prime Minister of NZ and Sophie Handford (young climate activist and counsillor)
Recording voice advertisements for the radio
Being in newspaper articles
Working with children
Planting trees
Planning events
It's been very rewarding to get outside and being one with nature. It’s really good to feel like I've made a difference.
Being a part of this team has really helped boost my confidence and I think has made me more aware of my surroundings. During my last year of college I was the environmental coordinator and I think being part of KGT is what really helped me get to that place.
It’s sad to say goodbye but I know that my time on this team has been very beneficial.
I am so beyond grateful for the whole experience and cannot wait to see where this team goes in the future.
