Student Leadership Teams 2023
This year we have 107 students on our Student Leadership Teams! They are aged 7-18 and come from many different local schools. The teams are extra-curricular and meet outside of school time. We provide opportunities for the students to connect with nature, engage in real restoration/conservation work, learn from experts, learn leadership skills and much more.
We started the year with a day of activities at Spa Park. The students got to learn about the projects that previous teams had taken on there, follow the Kiwi Guardian Adventure map, learn about introduced predators and play ecological bullrush, play disc golf with Ahere and Kynan from Taupo Disc Golf, build huts with Andrea from Blue Light Taupo, do a huge hill roll, learn about our unique endemic plants, and even have an ice cream.
It was a huge day of adventure, fun, team-bonding, and learning!
These students will lead the community planting days and also take the lead on KGT projects in their schools. They take on all kinds of roles with KGT, everything from presenting to council and showing visitors around, to cooking the BBQ and running the registration desk at planting days.
Thank you to all of the parents and community organisations who support this group to allow these opportunities to happen. 💚
