Trees for Survival
This year we are excited to have started a new collaborative partnership, facilitating for the Trees for Survival programme. St Patrick’s School is the first Taupō school to sign up to Trees for Survival programme.
We eco sourced and collected the seeds with a local ecologist. Then, we took them into the school to help the students prepare them to be propagated. They had lots of fun shaking the harakeke seeds out of their pods, popping out kōwhai seeds, and squishing out the tī kōuka seeds. These were sent off to a nursery and came back as seedlings!
Several classes at St Patrick's Catholic School, Taupo helped to pot up the 1000 little native seedlings and put them into their new shade house. These will be planted by students next year, restoring more native ngahere in Taupō. Thanks so much to The Warehouse Taupō for donating the potting mix for this project.
