Make Nature Confetti
Did you know that most glitter is actually made from plastic?
Sheets of coloured plastic (sometimes mixed with aluminium) are cut into tiny pieces to make glitter. It actually a type of microplastic, which will not biodegrade. This is a concern, as often glitter is washed down the sink or drain, and ends up in our waterways. For these reasons some scientists and environmental organizations are calling for a ban on glitter. Many schools and kindergartens no longer use glitter and instead use natural alternatives.
You can find natural alternatives to glitter like crushed leaves, sawdust, seeds, petals, sand etc. Be creative! Walk around your garden and look for things to use on your piece of art.
You could try to reduce waste at events (and during art class), by making your own nature confetti! Cut leaves into shapes with a hole punch, or craft punch. Have fun, be creative and save the environment!
