Nature Art
Find an outdoor area to create your natural work. Clear a space, like a clear canvas for your artwork! You want your work to stand out, so clear away any leaves or sticks. Have a look and see what natural resources are around you and collect them to make a pattern or a picture. If you have rocks or stones, can you make a sculpture with them? If there are autumn leaves around, group them according to colour and then see what patterns you can make. Berries and flowers make bright colourful pictures. Sticks and twigs are fantastic for adding another dimension.
Before doing this activity we highly recommend having a quick look through James Brunt’s artwork. The photos of his natural art really inspired me and my children. He uses easily sourced natural resources and simple patterns, but they are very effective. We love how he collects the leaves and then lays them out in colour patterns, facing one direction and adding sticks to give his design structure. We tried this in our leaf art that you can see in the photo. Our one warning is, don't attempt this on a windy day! Our leaves kept blowing away before we could get a photo!
Once you have finished your beautiful natural art, remember to take a photo. This photo can be framed as artwork for on the wall, or used on greeting cards.
