Mulching Day Success!
Thanks so much to everyone who joined us yesterday for our awesome school/community mulching day beside the river. We had 80 tamariki from local schools join us to learn about maintaining restoration sites in the years following a planting day. Did you know it can take 3-5 years for a planting site to be mature enough to no longer need maintenance? Often people plant trees and walk away, not realising the importance of weeding and mulching over the next few years in order for the trees' survival. It was wonderful to see our youth keen to learn about why we mulch, how to mulch properly, and even how to stake plants that needed support. They all had lots of fun and mulched 2000 plants! It was amazing to see how great the site looked after all their hard mahi. Thanks to Alex from Waikato Enviroschools and Robyn from Greening Taupo for their support. Thanks to Bevan from Total Sport NZ for his help with set up, and an extra big thank you to Dave who volunteered his time on the BBQ to give everyone some well deserved kai! What a team!
