Teacher Professional Development- Birds of Aotearoa

We were excited to work with Forest and Bird Taupō to put on this fun, educational and informative session for local teachers.

Our Term 1 free teacher professional development session was about the birds of Aotearoa! We started with a Bird BINGO game to introduce the birds of Aotearoa and learn some interesting facts about them.

Kids Greening Taupō presented about the history of our birds, explaining why they are so unique and vulnerable. They shared resources and games that teachers could use with their class. They also talked about what they could come in to do with teachers’ classes. You can learn all about the history of our unique biodiversity here.

Then, Anthea, from Forest and Bird Taupō talked about how to identify some of our most commonly seen birds and also some special endemic species that you may see in the Taupō area. She shared details of online resources, apps and games that teachers could use with their tamariki.

We finished with a short walk in the beautiful Waipahīhī Botanical Reserve to bird watch and try out our new bird identification skills!
